In this summer transfer window that has long been full of speculation, Real Madrid's Rodrigo was once regarded as the focus of Liverpool's signings. With uncertainty about the future of team winger Louis Dias, many expect the Reds to look for a high-profile replacement. However, James Pierce, the authoritative reporter of Liverpool's mouthpiece and The Athletic, poured cold water on this rumor.
Pierce has clearly confirmed that even if Dias eventually leaves the team, Liverpool has not considered introducing Real Madrid's Rodrigo as a replacement. There was no negotiation between the two sides.
This news undoubtedly brought a heavy blow to Liverpool fans who are looking forward to strong aid.
At present, rumors of Dias leaving the team are getting worse and worse. According to German Bild's reporter Falk, Bayern Munich is still confident in signing Dias and is determined to find a solution. Even though their previous €67.5 million offer was rejected, negotiations continued. More importantly, Bayern reportedly offered Dias a four-year contract far higher than his current salary at Liverpool, which is considered a key factor in attracting the Colombia international.
On one side, Diaz may have been poached by a high salary, but on the other side, the club denies interest in "the perfect replacement" Rodrigo. The reason behind this is likely to be the price. It is reported that Real Madrid's asking price for Rodrigo is as high as 90 million euros, which is likely to be an important reason why Liverpool decided not to participate in this bidding war.
From the perspective of fans, the news is frustrating. At the transfer window where signings are weak, the rumors about Rodrigo brought at least a hint of excitement. If Dias is really lost in the wing point but there is no alternative at the same level, it will undoubtedly cast a shadow on the team's path to defending the Premier League. What fans desire is ambition, not "caution" disguised as strategy.
What is even more worrying is that Dias may be tempted by higher salaries and so-called "platform upgrades", which requires reflection by the club's senior management. Last season, coach Slott brought great success to the team, but this momentum is likely to weaken if the depth of the lineup is not maintained or even improved.
Now, the ball is kicked back to Liverpool's management. We heard that the club has “other goals” – then, it’s time to reveal it.
