3-party transaction sends Hachimura to the Knicks

According to F/W contributor Sidante Gupta, in order to strengthen the Lakers' frontcourt rotation, we discussed the three-team deal, which involved sending Hachimura to the Knicks.

The 2025 offseason was largely positive for the Lakers. With some solid lineup upgrades, the Lakers seem to be a more competitive team to enter the new season. Given Doncic's goal to win this season, the Lakers seem to have taken appropriate steps. But lately, concerns about the team's ability to compete for the championship have been widespread.

Los Angeles have been mentioned in multiple rumors, mainly to improve their frontcourt depth. With Hachimura being mentioned in almost every trade, we explore another trade proposal that could help the Lakers consolidate the team. The following are the details of the trading plan:

Lakers get: Topin, the second round pick from the Raptors in 2026, and the second round pick from the Mavericks in 2028; Hachimura Hachimura

Pacers get: Miroson, Achuwa (trading after signing)

If this deal is reached, there will be benefits for all three parties. Here we focus on the analysis of the impact of this deal on the Purple and Gold Legion.

Toping can adapt to the Lakers' system

In the long run, the acquisition of Obie Topin may be very beneficial to the Los Angeles Lakers. The forward's arrival immediately made some upper limit space for the Purple and Gold Legion. Topin’s maximum salary next season is $14 million ($4.2 million less than Hachimura), and Topin’s acquisition will allow the Lakers to make a crucial mid-season signing or trade that could turn the team into a championship contender. In addition to contract benefits, Toping's addition is also of great significance from a systematic perspective. In Doncic and James' offense, having a versatile offensive threat is crucial. In this regard, the striker meets all the right requirements.

Topin is known as one of the most athletic players in the league. His all-over potential at the dunker makes it a viable option on the offensive end. In addition, he has developed his ability as a three-point shooter. From being able to dominate the basket to opening up space, Toping can help the Purple and Gold Army add a lot of changes to their offensive plan, while also improving their substitute strength. He played a key role on the Pacers’ bench last season. In 79 games, he averaged 10.5 points and 4 rebounds per game, shooting 52.9% from the field and 36.5% from three-pointers. While his shooting ability may be comparable to Hachimura Ran, Toppin's contract flexibility and his advancement as a defender may make him a reliable acquisition.

While recent trading rumors show that the Lakers are linked to several potential targets, it has been reported that the Purple and Gold Army is still interested in trading Miami Heat forward Wiggins. He is regarded by many as the last piece of the Lakers' puzzle. His skills and experience also make him an ideal choice for the team. Although the Lakers are working hard to acquire the former No. 1 pick, no deal has been reached yet. With this in mind, if it stagnates, it is also a very critical step to split up with key trading assets such as Hachimura and choose other potential targets as soon as possible. What do you think?
