Former Mavericks boss Cuban sold most of the team's equity in 23 years. Although he is no longer the team's main decision-maker, Cuban remains in close contact with the Mavericks and continues to participate in team affairs.

Recently, Cuban revealed on a podcast that he expected to continue to take charge of the team's basketball operations when he initially sold the team, but a series of internal problems ultimately led to the failure of the plan. Cuban said: "When the sale agreement was reached, the consensus among all parties was that I would still be responsible for basketball operations. We tried to write this into the contract, but the NBA said that the team's 'head' was the final decision-maker and had the final decision-making power for all matters."

"Later, I did participate in the team's affairs, and we also reached the final finals. At that time, I thought, 'Since the team is in full swing, I don't interfere,' instead of always thinking about doing everything myself. Now it seems that it was a wrong decision. There were some problems within the team at that time - the person who was in charge of trading Luca back then, and he didn't want me to stay in the position of (basketball operations). So, in the end, they got what they wanted, and I couldn't stay."
