2 for 1! The Nuggets big deal! Goodbye, champion striker

5:28pm, 1 July 2025Basketball

The Nuggets traded Porter Jr. and the 32-year unprotected first-round pick to the Nets for Cameron Johnson.

This means that the Nuggets have disintegrated over the years with the core framework of Murray + Porter Jr. + Gordon + Jokic.

Potter Jr. is 27 years old this year, the No. 14 pick in the 18th first round, and has gradually grown into a starting core forward. He has played for the Nuggets for 7 seasons. He has signed a five-year, $173 million contract in 21 years, and has made indelible contributions to the team's championship in 23 years.

Last season's regular season, Porter Jr. started all 77 games for the Nuggets, averaging 33.7 minutes per game, contributing 18.2 points, 7 rebounds and 2.1 assists, with a shooting percentage of 50.4%, 39.5% and 76.8% in the three events; however, his performance made a sharp turn in the playoffs, averaging 31.1 minutes per game, scoring only 9.1 points and 5.5 rebounds, and his shooting percentage of 39.2%, 34.3% and 71.4% in three events.

Especially in the second round of the Western Conference Playoffs this year, Porter Jr. scored single digits in 5 games in the seven-game series. If he could perform a little better, perhaps this year's championship would still belong to Denver. Because of this, he has always been the player with the highest trading call, and now he finally got what he wants. The contract that Porter Jr. is executing expires in 2027, with annual salary of $38.33 million and $40.81 million respectively in the next two seasons. He should continue to play an important role when he is currently in the reconstruction stage.

As for the Nuggets new player Johnson, he will draw for Porter Jr. to become the team's new starting No. 3 position. This guy is 29 years old this year. He averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in the regular season last season, with a shooting percentage of 47.5%, 39% and 89.3% in the three events. The contract being executed also expires in the summer of 27, with annual salary of US$20.54 million and US$22.5 million respectively in the next two seasons. After the transaction was completed, the Nuggets saved $17 million and had a complete middle-class special case. So then there was good news that Bruce Brown would return to the Nuggets with a one-year contract.

Brown also made great contributions to the Nuggets championship in 23 years. That year, the team was the most important substitute for the playoffs, averaging 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 breaks per game. Then he brought his talent to the Pacers with $45 million in two years.

What do you think of this 2-for-1 transaction? I will pick up the keyboard in the comment area and start the microphone boldly!
