Thunder All-Star Shay Gilgers-Alexander frankly talked about the "power" brought by the Clippers' trading.
Before the Denver Nuggets' Game 7 against the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shay Gilgers-Alexander reviewed his old club ahead of a possible second-round series. As Thunder head coach Mark Dignot prepares for the second round of the series this week, Gilgers-Alexander talks about the possibility of facing his old club in the Western Conference semifinals.
A reporter asked Gilgers Alexander if he had considered the Clippers and the trade to the Thunder in 2019 as an additional motivation for him to compete in a possible seven-game four-win series.
"They did it a long time ago. However, I haven't thought about them for years," Gilgers-Alexander said. "I can't, I think you can say, hold a grudge. For whatever reason, they left me, they thought it was a good idea, and so did the Thunder. That's the situation I face, I just tried to make the best of them."
However, Thunder All-Star Shay Gilgers-Alexander admitted that he had been watching the Clippers' first round series with the Nuggets.
"I will see it. Do my best," said Gilgers-Alexander. "We've seen these two teams four times this year. So we have a pretty good feeling for them. We know what they can bring and what kind of challenges they will bring. Both teams are obviously good basketball teams. This series is because of that. The key is that when the challenge comes, when we figure out who the opponent is, we have to be prepared."
Nuggets will host the Clippers at home on Saturday for Game 7.
Mark Dignot talks about the Thunder's second round preparation strategy
After the Thunder swept the Grizzlies in the first round, Dignot revealed the team's preparation strategy for the upcoming Western Conference semi-finals. In preparing for the game against the Clippers or Nuggets, Dagnot focused on improving the team's strength.
"We're still trying to improve ourselves. We don't want to make any assumptions. We don't want to invest a lot of time on one team and then, you know, the other team wins," said Dagnott. "So, we are prepared enough and have enough foundations. No matter what happens, these foundations are important and we can continue to improve. From a preparation point of view, we are not at a disadvantage compared to our opponents."
"No matter who the opponent is, they are still playing the series. We are used to this fast pace of preparation," concluded Dageno.
There is no official news about when the Thunder's second round series will begin.
