The goods are not right! The Premier League has been attracting parallel products with a lot of money, and Manchester United is the worst among the giants

4:58pm, 13 September 2025Football

This summer, Premier League teams spent a total of more than 3.55 billion euros in the transfer market, setting a new global transfer fee record. However, the investment in real money does not necessarily mean high quality. In other words: many of the star players that Premier League clubs spend millions of every year have eventually become "parallel". Therefore, I compiled a best 11-person lineup that "has not met the transfer price expectations", and the transfer fee data comes from the German transfer market website.

Goalkeeper: Andre Onana (Manchester United)

The goalkeeper joined Manchester United from Inter Milan for about 50 million euros in the summer of 2023. Just two years later, he is no longer the team's main goalkeeper. In the new season, Onana was loaned to Türkiye's Trabzon Sports. Obviously, the black goalkeeper's performance was not as good as expected.

Defense line:

Drigt (Manchester United)

Bayern Munich recovered about 45 million euros from the Dutch defender. The deal is obviously only good for Bayern. De Rigt failed to stop United from being ranked 16th in a disastrous season. What can be revealed is that Manchester United will appear on this list many times.

Mustafi (Arsenal)

The Gunners paid Valencia 41 million euros for the former German international. Just five years later, he transferred to Schalke 04 as a free agent. This has said it all.

Kulibaly (Chelsea)

Chelsea is also good at burning money and "burning" players. The defender joined for nearly €42 million, and now the market value is only €6 million, and currently plays in the Saudi Arabian League. The Brazilian midfielder's market value has also experienced a similar plunge. Manchester United paid him more than 70 million euros, while his market value at the time was 40 million euros, and now it has fallen to just 10 million euros.

Sancho (Manchester United)

Although Casemiro has not terminated his contract with Manchester United, the former Dortmund player has "escape". Sancho joined for 85 million euros in 2021 and has now been loaned to Aston Villa.

Ndombele (Spurs)

Is Tottenham also following Manchester United? The French midfielder joined Lyon for €62 million in 2019 and has since gone on loans. He transferred to Nice as a free agent this season, and his current market value is only 8 million euros.

Mudric (Chelsea)

The offensive player had hoped to start his world-class career after transferring to Chelsea for 70 million euros. However, things went against his expectations: Since November 2024, he has been suspended for suspected stimulants and may even face a four-year ban.

Nicholas Pepe (Arsenal)

Gunners wasted more money on him: In 2019, Arsenal paid 80 million euros to Lille. But he only had a highlight in Ligue 1, and the club eventually terminated his contract with him one year early.

Hoylen (Manchester United)

How can this list be missing Manchester United's attackers? It's like there's no hangover in the morning after a carnival - I always feel like something is missing. The Red Devils paid nearly €78 million to Atlanta in 2023. This summer, he was loaned to Naples.

Anthony (Manchester United)

Following Pogba, the Brazilian winger is the second most expensive signing in club history. Manchester United paid 95 million euros to Ajax in 2022. Now he has moved to Real Betis with a huge loss, with the La Liga club allegedly paying only €22 million.

This summer, the Premier League welcomed high-priced new players such as Wilz, Waltermad, Yorkress, and Sheshko. After this season, will anyone among them be on this "not meeting transfer value expectations" list?
