FIA World Cup and European Baja Cup contenders head to Teruel s harsh heat and dusty Lower Spain Aragon

Participants in this year's FIA World Cup and European Baja Cup will travel to the town of Teruel in the province of Aragon, Spain from July 25 to 27 to challenge honors in the increasingly popular Lower Spain.
93 participating cars included 24 participating in the Ultimate category, an amazing 39 participating in the Challenger section of the Light Prototype Off-Road, 28 entering the SSV section, and two participating in the stock level of mass-produced Off-Road.
Among them, 11 are competing for points in the FIA Baha World Cup, and 10 are looking to add points in the FIA European Baha Cup. The powerful entries also include several well-known figures in the off-road industry and several Dakar champions Nasser Saleh Atiya and Joan Nani Roma.
Six-time champion Al-Attiyah works with Belgian navigator Fabian Lurquin for the first time to continue his development work with Dacia Sandrider before the next round of the FIA World Rally Championship (W2RC). Five-time champion Roma and navigator Alex Haro are continuing to work on the Raptor of the M-Sport Ford team with Belgian support driver Jourdan Serderidis.
But the focus of the FIA World Cup in Baja is on the competition for the driver’s championship, with its group points structure providing equal opportunities for success for drivers and navigators in all categories.
Czech driver Miroslav Zapretar currently leads the drivers’ standings by 15 points and is at the top of the Ultimate and Masters in his Ford F-150 Evo. His closest challenger is ultimate rival Juan Cruz Yacopini, who drives Overdrive Racing Toyota Hilux.
The Argentinian has won two rounds in Jordan and Italy this season, which has given his Navigator Daniel Oliveras a 25-point lead over Andrei Rudnitsky in the Navigator Championship. Portugal's Francisco Barreto also drove the Toyota Hilux to chase FIA World Baja Cup points.
UAE Khalid Al-Jafla currently drives his Taurus T3 Max to lead the Challenger category and ranks third in the Driver's Championship and second in the Masters category. He has scored goals in four games this season and has not registered points in Spain.
Sergei Remennik from the UAE is his closest challenger competitor, who has traveled to Spain to race the Taurus T3 Max with Navigator Aleksei Ignatov. Sergei scored the highest score in Saudi Arabia and Jordan, but has so far participated in only two rounds of the series.
As the season approaches midpoint, the battle for honors in the SSV category has become increasingly fierce, although British player Paul Severn (Polaris) – who leads the SSV category by 23 points – has not yet made it to Teruel.
This could allow his six closest competitors to close the gap with the British, or take the lead in the championship battle. Dutchman Mitchel Van Den Brink (Can-Am) became his closest challenger after his outstanding performance in Italy, with Italian Amerigo Ventura (Yamaha) trailing just two points.
Earlier this month, Oman's Hamed Al-Wahaibi scored the highest score in Italy, which put the Can-Am driver in fourth place in the championship. Former WRC co-pilot Ilka Minor returns to partner with the veteran after missing out on Pordenone’s final round.
Other registered SSV competitors include Saudi Arabia's Abdullah Heidan, Argentina's Diego Martinez and Eugenio Amos, and the trio is Can-Am Maverick Rs. FIA Baja regular champion Fernando Alvarez returned to the field after a suspension caused by back surgery, but this time he did not register for FIA points.
The impressive list of SSV drivers with unregistered FIA points also includes Portugal’s João Dias, Alexander Pinto and João Monteiro, Frenchman Michael Mech and talented Norwegian girl Heda Hossos.
Saudi Arabia's Majed Al-Thunayyan (Nissan) once again chose to miss the European round, and the stock category leader will surely see Portugal's Fernando Barreiros weaken his 37-point advantage, he is the only contestant to register for the FIA World Cup in Baja.
The list of non-registered drivers who compete in the Ultimate Level race is well beyond Al-Attiyah and Roma. South Africa's leading driver Saood Variawa and Portuguese driver João Ferreira represent Toyota Gazoo Racing, who made his debut after transfer from the X-Raid team.
Senior WRC driver and former Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge champion Martin Prokop drove his Ford Raptor, X-Raid drove two diesel-engine Mini JCW rally machines for Lionel Baud and Maria Gameiro, and Polish Energylandia Rally trio Eryk, Marek and Michal Goczal returned to the field in three Toyota Hilux IMT Evos. Overdrive Racing also participated in Hilux for Bach runner-up in Italy, Martin Kaczmarski.
Vizel and Goretzky hope to defend the leading position of the FIA European Baja Cup
This year's Nine-round system of the FIA European Baja Cup has Polish team Battomy Vaizel and Ernest Goretzky led the closest opponents by 64 points in the Driver and Navigator Championships. The Toyota Land Cruiser KDJ 155 crew also leads in the inventory category, with Wajzer being the leader in the Masters group.
Their closest competitors are currently the Spanish duo Miguel Angel Valero and Carlos Ruiz in VN Competición T34. Valero also ranked second in the Masters rider group, leading the Challenger by 35 points and leading Portugal’s Thiago Rez. Hungarian Lőrinc Mészáros will also be chasing Challenger points in Spain.
Reis drove his Taurus T3 Max fifth in the driver’s standings, behind Wajzer, Valero, SSV leader Yağiz Birinci and Ultimate group leader Magdalena Zając. Billingch did not travel to Spain but maintained a lead in the junior group, ahead of Alfonso Oliveira. Only Polaris RXR Pro R Sport drivers Oliveira and Sean Haran registered SSV points in the FIA European Baja Cup held in Spain.
Zając will seek to expand her ultimate group advantage in the absence of her closest competitor Wlodzimierz Grajek, although Benediktas Vanagas and Aisvydas Paliukenas of the Baltic team in Lithuania, finished third in Italy in total and are racing in Spain. Denis Krotov and Konstantin Zhiltsov hope to rebound strongly after their X-Raid Mini JCW 3.0i finish 23rd in Italy.
The activity is based on the town of Teruel in the Aragon region of eastern Spain. Participants will challenge 797.69 km of race kilometres in the 545.47 km race, with the route being formulated by Baja Auto Club – Octagonal. The
6.78 km prologue will determine the starting order on Friday (July 25) afternoon, and then participants will challenge the two stages of 172.71 km and 193.37 km on Saturday (July 26) in the heat of Spanish summer. The
competition will end on Sunday (July 26), with a single stage of 172.71 km, then at night at Teruel's podium and awards ceremonysource:ty so 7m cn
