Liverpool Football Club officially announced that 27-year-old England goalkeeper Freddy Woodman joined as a free agent and will start participating in preseason training with his new team next month. Woodman is Liverpool's fifth signing this summer after Flynnon, Wilz, Kelkez and Hungarian young goalkeeper Peppa.
Woodman was from Crystal Palace youth training and later switched to Newcastle, but has been on loan for many years and has been playing for the Championship team Preston in 2022. Woodman won the World Youth Championship with the England U20 National Youth Team in 2017 and won the "Golden Glove" award for the event.
Due to Kellech's transfer, two young goalkeepers Yaros and Xavi Davis are out of loan. Liverpool hopes to introduce an experienced substitute goalkeeper for Alisson and Mamaldashvili, who is expected to officially join from Valencia on July 1.
Woodman meets the registration requirements for "Association's Players Training", so he will not occupy Liverpool's 17 non-local players training spots on the Champions League roster. Woodman's father Andrew is currently the head coach of the English League Two team Bromley, while his godfather is the former three Lions coach Sir Southgate.
