July 20th Arsenal officially announced the signing of Derby County midfielder Demian Augustine, the 17-year-old signed a professional contract with the Gunners on Saturday afternoon.

Augustine has played for Derby County as a youth trainee for the past two years, but has rejected the professional contract offered by the club. Derby County confirmed in a statement that they have received undisclosed compensation. The midfielder who contributed 16 goals in the U18 Premier League last season later confirmed that after communicating with Arsenal youth training director Per Mertesacker, he decided that Emirates Stadium was the best choice.

The Dutch midfielder said: "I am very excited to join this giant club and can't wait to play for Arsenal. It is very important for the club to hire a celebrity like Mertesak to serve. I have had in-depth exchanges with him and know his values. He must not only cultivate excellent players but also create a sound personality. This concept is exciting."

"I will prove with practical actions that I deserve Arsenal, and strive to get first-team appearances or even enter the bench to accumulate experience. This will be a fantastic season."

Augustine's father is former Premier League midfielder Kemi Augustine, who once fought with the Gunners in the 2011-12 season. Talking about the impact of his father on his career, Augustine Jr. said: "My father has played for Swansea, Brighton and Crystal Palace. He and his mother have given me great help. This combination is perfect."

The new player hopes to follow the example of Gunners defender Timber, who also comes from Curacao: "As a Dutch Curacao player, it is rare to meet his compatriots in the UK. We look forward to training with him and understanding the efforts behind his success."
