As Arne Slot approached to find a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool "ready to trigger" Jeremie Frimpon's termination clause.
Leverkusen defender Flynnon is the right winger led by Xavi Alonso and it seems he is ready to move to the Premier League, with Liverpool reportedly leading the race.
The Dutch international has attracted strong attention from the Premier League over the past two years, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all linked to him.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold's free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expires, the Reds are looking for a new right-back - and Flynnon appears to be Arne Slot's top target.
Liverpool is now "ready to trigger" Flynnon's termination clause after "the negotiations made progress in recent days to reach an agreement".
The former Manchester City youth player has a clause worth about €35 million (£29.5 million) in his contract with Leverkusen – well below his valuation of €50 million in the German transfer market.
Liverpool is expected to reach this number, but Flynnpool's former club Celtics will reportedly share the transfer fees received by Leverkusen.
Some reports say the Scottish champion negotiated a resale clause of up to 30%.
Flynnon made 53 appearances for clubs and national teams in the 2024/25 season and played a key role in helping Leverkusen win his first Bundesliga title of the season.
While he has performed well as a right-wing defender, how he adapts to the traditional right-back play in the Premier League remains to be seen.
Still, Liverpool fans hope he can overcome his defensive weakness and make progress – just like Alexander Arnold did during his time at Anfield.
The England international, who is often criticized for his defensive position, is about to join Real Madrid to join Flynnon's current coach Xavi Alonso.
Alonso will replace Carlo Ancelotti to coach the Bernabeu, and Alexander Arnold has agreed to a free transfer to join Real Madrid.
Real Madrid is reportedly working to register Alexander Arnold so he can participate in next month's Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen was preparing for a massive drop in the summer after Alonso left.
Star midfielder Florian Werz is associated with Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with the transfer fee likely to exceed £100 million.
