According to recent recruitment information, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking for a new coach to join JJ Redick's coaching team during the offseason.

Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers ended their 2024-25 season by losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the first round of the playoffs. For JJ Redick, who was coaching for the first year, the season was generally good, but in the series against the Timberwolves, he made some puzzling decisions, including having the starter play for 24 minutes in the second half of Game 4.

Now, the Lakers seem to hope to get more help from Redick in the offseason, as recently exposed recruitment information shows that the Lakers are hiring a new main physical coach. The message comes from the NBA on ESPN (data source: TeamWork Online on X, original Twitter).

The Lakers did not perform well in Game 4 against the Timberwolves, with the starters — especially Luca Doncic and LeBron James — looking exhausted to keep up with the young Minnesota team.

Lakers' offseason events

In addition to adjusting the coaching staff, the Lakers' top priority during the offseason is to add a strong center and join the starting lineup.

In the game against the Timberwolves, the Lakers' lack of depth in the frontcourt was fully exposed, and Jackson Hayes showed no power to fight back. When Redick finally stopped the attempt, Rudy Gobert performed well in Game 5 as Shaquille O'Neal at his peak.

Earlier this season, the Lakers used the trade of Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams as bargaining chips to get the future center, but the deal was eventually cancelled because Williams failed the team's physical examination.

The players the Lakers may chase during the offseason include Nick Clarkston, Mitchell Robinson and Miles Turner (although the Indiana Pacers are unlikely to give up any core players after making the second straight Eastern Conference Finals).

In any case, the Lakers will face some major decisions in the coming months, as the 2025-26 season will be Reddick's second coaching of the Los Angeles Lakers.
