On October 16, Basketnews reported that Lakers center Hayes is working hard to obtain a Slovenian passport, hoping to join the Slovenian national team with Doncic. Hayes said after losing to the Mavericks in today's playoffs: "Doncic is my partner, and we are now working hard to apply for a Slovenian passport for me so that I can play with him next summer."

This offseason, Hayes re-signed a one-year contract with the Lakers, which included a trade veto clause.

The 25-year-old center played in 56 games last season, including 35 starts, averaging 6.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. His role increased in importance after Los Angeles traded him to Dallas in early February.

As a veteran with 6 years of NBA experience, Hayes started his career with the Pelicans. In the upcoming 2025-26 season, he is expected to serve as the backup center for former No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton.

Next summer, Slovenia will participate in the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers. Will we see Hayes and Doncic continue to team up for the national team?
