Grizzlies and Durant s rumor: Focus on contract renewal and draft layout

2:14am, 20 June 2025Basketball

On June 19, trading rumors surrounding Suns star Durant attracted attention again, focusing on whether the Grizzlies will participate. Previously, famous reporter Sidery broke the news on social media that the Grizzlies have become Durant's potential suitor again. You should know that the team had chased the 36-year-old forward as early as the trading deadline in February this year.

However, the well-known Grizzlies team recorder Cole gave a different view. He quoted league sources as saying that although the Grizzlies did consider offering for Durant in the middle of the season, they are currently not interested in the 15-time All-Star player and do not intend to start a chase during the offseason. Coincidentally, famous reporter Fischer also released a similar report a few days ago, pointing out that the Grizzlies are not expected to join the Durant battle, even though they just got a batch of draft picks from Bain's trade. Fischer also mentioned that the Grizzlies were unwilling to pursue him before the trade deadline because they were worried that Butler would not renew his contract, and the current attitude towards Durant is likely to be the same.

Fischer also said that while the Grizzlies had no intention of chasing Durant, other teams are paying close attention to how General Manager Kleiman will use the first round picks obtained in the Bain trade for signings. For the Grizzlies, completing early renewal negotiations with Jaren Jackson Jr. remains the "first task". Famous reporter Scotto also confirmed this, and league sources revealed to Scotto that forward player John Conchar (salary of $12.33 million in the next two years) could become the team's salary clearance deal, freeing up salary space for renewal of Jackson.

It is worth mentioning that the Grizzlies won the No. 16 pick for next week's draft in the Bain trade. If the Grizzlies retain the sign, Cole lists five "defensive wings" they may target, including Noah-Esengu, Cedric-Coward and Nick-Clifford. The Grizzlies seem to be more focused on renewals of their core players and potential signings at the draft in amid the fog of Durant’s trade rumors to build a more competitive roster. How the Grizzlies will use the resources they have in their hands to make arrangements in the future will undoubtedly touch the hearts of many fans.
