The reporter wrote: "Florentino has decided to step down as chairman of Real Madrid next year, although his term will not end until 2028. He hopes to see an orderly transfer of power regardless of whether members support the vote."
Florentino, 78, was first elected as chairman of Real Madrid in 2000. In 2006, he announced his resignation as chairman of Real Madrid; in 2009, he was re-elected as chairman of Real Madrid and remains in office today. Counting his previous first term, "Lafayette" has served as Real Madrid chairman for more than 20 years.
