The third round of the Champions League set a scoring record

In the third round of the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League, the wonderful goal feasts set a new record for goals in a single round. A total of 71 goals were scored in this round, with an average of nearly 4 goals per game (3.94 goals to be exact), which is particularly astonishing.

The previous record was set in the fifth round of last season and the first round of this season, with 67 goals scored in both rounds. However, this week's games not only equaled that record, but also improved it significantly with a series of big wins: six games saw a total of five goals or more, notably Leverkusen's match against Paris Saint-Germain, which saw a total of nine goals (2-7).

It is worth noting that although a high number of goals is undoubtedly a positive sign for improving the enjoyment of the game, it also reflects the lack of suspense in some games. Among these 18 games, almost half of the games ended with a big score, including Bayern 4-0 Bruges, Chelsea 5-1 Ajax, Frankfurt 1-5 Liverpool, Arsenal 4-0 Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen 2-7 Paris Saint-Germain, PSV 6-2 Napoli, San Giros 0-4 Inter Milan and Barcelona 6-1 Olympiakos.

The following are the five rounds with the most goals scored in a single round in history:

Round 3 of the 25/26 season (71 goals/18 games)

Round 1 of the 25/26 season (67 goals/18 games)

Round 5 of the 24/25 season (67 goals/18 games)

The 8th round of the 24/25 season (64 goals/18 games)

The 1st round of the 2000/01 season (63 goals/16 games)

This scoring carnival brought countless unforgettable moments to the fans and further consolidated the Champions League's status as the world's top club competition.
