Messi, the eight-time Golden Globe winner, made no secret of his admiration for Maradona in an interview. In Messi's view, no one in football can compare to Maradona. In the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Maradona led the Argentine team to win the championship. In that World Cup, Maradona had both the hand of God and the genius of shooting past 6 people.

Messi said: "For us Argentines, Maradona will always be our most admired idol. The influence he has given us is so profound. I have watched his live games since I was a child, and Maradona's game has indeed exceeded everyone's imagination."

After winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Messi dedicated his victory to Maradona. He said: "I really hope Diego can hand the trophy to me in person, or at least be able to see it all with his own eyes and see Argentina become the world champion again. He has always longed for such a moment and loves his national team very much. I think in heaven, like many people who love me, he must feel extremely relieved."

In the interview, Messi also talked about his admiration for outstanding athletes in other sports. "When it comes to other sports, I think the same is true for Jordan. I admire tennis players like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic very much. I think the existence of these three people has made the sport of tennis more exciting than before."
