Eric Tenhager's coaching career at Leverkusen was over in just two league games and it ended - the Bundesliga club decided to fire the Dutch coach, who led the team to play in the two Bundesliga games after taking office this summer.

Tenhager coached for the first time after being fired by Manchester United, but the term of office for this job is fleeting. He led the team to lose to Hoffenheim in the opening match of the Bundesliga and was tied by Werder Bremen on the weekend; in addition, during the preseason, the team was in a sluggish state due to the departure of several core players, and the club's management finally chose to change coaches.

The former Ajax coach wanted to regain his reputation in Germany: although he led the team to win the first round of the German Cup, the Bundesliga's first two rounds of the Bundesliga only received one point (6 points out) and was unsatisfactory. What's even more fatal is that when facing Bremen with 10 players on the weekend, Leverkusen was chased twice in a row while leading 3-1, losing a good game. Leverkusen said in a statement: "Leverkusen has terminated the contract with head coach Eric Tenhager. The decision was made by the shareholders' committee of the club's supervisory body based on management's recommendations. The current coaching staff is temporarily taken over the training work."

This is undoubtedly another heavy blow to the former Manchester United coach. His coaching career at Manchester United also ended in a bleak situation: after leading the team to win the FA Cup in 2024, he received controversial support from the club, but soon the Ineos management realized that it was necessary to change the coach and eventually fired him in October last year.
