Announcement

Ipswich Club is pleased to announce that forward Chuba Akpon has joined on loan from Ajax for one season.

The 29-year-old joined Lille on loan last season, participated in the Champions League, and has played for Middlesbrough, Brighton, Hull City and Nottingham Forest, with rich experience in the Championship.

He will be the club's sixth signing in the summer transfer window and is expected to make his debut in the Carabao Cup away against Bromley on Tuesday night.

"I was so excited to hear that the club was interested in me and was very happy to join such an ambitious club," Chuba told Ipswich Fans TV.

"I often watch football games, and I always think Ipswich is very suitable for my style, so the transfer is very reasonable. In the past few years, I have played in the Champions League with Ajax and Lille, and have accumulated a lot of valuable experience. I think these experiences have improved my player level and helped me become who I am now."

"I came here to help the team as much as I can. Whether in the locker room or on the court, I will bring my winning mentality here."

After debuting in the Arsenal youth training system, Akpon left the Gunners and played on loan for Brentford, Coventry, Hull City and Brighton, and then joined the Belgian team St. Treden in the second half of the 2017-18 season.

Then, he officially joined the Thessaloniki PAOK Football Club in Cyprus, scoring 14 goals in two seasons. In September 2020, he returned to England to join Middlesbrough. While playing for Riverside Stadium, the forward returned to Thessaloniki PAOK on loan in the 2021-22 season, and then returned to the parent team in the 2022-23 season, achieving great success, scoring 28 Championship goals and finally won the Golden Boot Award.

With excellent form, Akpon transferred to Ajax in the summer of 2023, where he scored 21 goals. He then transferred to Lille in the second half of the 2024-25 season, where he played for the Champions League for the first time.
