Anthony s tears are gone Betis: It s hard to stay in La Liga rebirth, where is the next stop?

5:09am, 2 June 2025Football

With the end of the loan period, Brazilian winger Anthony officially bid farewell to La Liga Real Betis Club. The Manchester United out-of-pocket player posted an emotional post on social media, calling this experience "one of the best chapters in life", with gratitude and reluctance between the lines.

Anthony joined Betis on loan from Manchester United in January this year. Previously, despite a brief flash after transferring from Ajax to Manchester United at a high price in the summer window of 2022, he has never gained a foothold in Old Trafford and gradually faded out of the plans of former coach Ten Hach and his successor Amorin.

However, the sunshine of Seville seemed to rekindle Anthony's fighting spirit. At Betis, he quickly regained his form and became a key figure in the team's sprint in the second half. At the league level, he played in 17 La Liga games, contributing 7 goals or assists, helping the team climb from 12th place when he joined, and finally secured the 6th in the league, successfully qualifying for European competition next season. In the European competition, he also delivered a brilliant answer to 7 goals in 9 European League matches, and followed the team to the final against Chelsea last week. This loan career undoubtedly proves to the outside world that he still has the top level.

Although resurrected at Betis, Anthony's future is not at Lopela Stadium. At present, Betis or other clubs have not reached an agreement on a permanent transfer. Anthony has said goodbye to the "Green and White Legion" in social media, and the possibility of his return to Manchester United is slim. The player himself admitted his plight at Manchester United and the club also tended to sell it. His next stop is still unknown.

In his farewell speech, Anthony expressed his true feelings: "Today is a day to thank one of the best chapters in my life. From the first step to entering this club, I felt something unusual. It's like going home, with you, I start smiling again. Thank you for letting me regain the joy of playing football."

Tactical adaptability is still a difficult problem for Anthony's future choice. As a traditional winger, he does not fit in with the 3-4-2-1 system preferred by Manchester United's new coach Amorin. This system relies more on the up and down ability of the wingback and the core organizational role of the front midfielder.

Transfer dynamics, interestingly, according to multiple media reports, Tenham, who has just won the Bundesliga champion Leverkusen, is interested in attracting this former Ajax favorite. He also appears on the signing list with Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho. Whether Anthony can renew his relationship with his mentor in Germany has become a major highlight of the transfer market this summer.
