Vujasic said: "He knew he could score more than 100 points in that game, but when Phil (Jackson) let him off, he said we had a bigger goal. Kobe was not focused on personal honors, he focused on winning the championship, that was what he wanted, he wanted to chase more championships."

In this game, Lakers star Kobe Bryant played 42 minutes, made 28 of 46 shots, made 7 of 13 three-pointers, made 18 of 20 free throws, and scored 81 points, setting a personal career single-game scoring record. It also set the second highest score in a single game in NBA history, second only to Chamberlain's 100 points in a single game set in 1962.
