The Lakers have been on the list many times with 6 teams in NBA history with luxurious but unsuccessful teams.

Speaking of superstars, the most successful case is the original three Celtics, the Heat, and later the "Cosmic Brave". Among them, the Warriors, who have Durant, Curry, Thompson and Green, could even compete for the strongest team in NBA history. If it weren't for Durant's Achilles tendon and Thompson's cruciate ligament ruptured in the 2019 Finals, the Warriors' three consecutive championships would have been basically a foregone conclusion.
However, in fact, not every team with multiple All-Stars can succeed in the end. For example, the Nets did not reach the division finals when they had Durant, Harden and Irving. Although they lost due to injuries in 2021, the reason why they disintegrated was because of problems in the locker room. If they were united enough at the beginning, the Nets would not have the chance to continue to compete for the championship. The same is true for the six teams we have included next. They seem to have a luxurious paper lineup, but the final result is disappointing!
1. After the Rockets
were eliminated by the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs in 1996, Barkley ushered in a transfer in the offseason. For the sake of the championship, he chose to join the Rockets to join Olajuwon and Drexler. At the same time, the Rockets also recruited Kevin Willis, who was once an All-Star player. In the 1996-1997 season, the Rockets scored 57 wins and 25 losses in the regular season, second only to the Utah Jazz in the West. During this period, the team's four core players also performed well.
Under the expectation, the Rockets, who were swept by the Supersonics in the second round the previous year, successfully took revenge this season. They defeated their opponents in the second round with a tiebreak of 4-3 against the Supersonics team and entered the Western Conference Finals. However, facing the Jazz in the end, the Rockets failed to continue the victory, and the team lost to them 2-4. In this round of the series, Olajuwon performed well. He averaged 27 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3.3 blocks per game. However, Barkley and Drexler's performance was not ideal. Then these cores of the Rockets were still declining, so after the first round of the 1998 game, the team ushered in the development of the body.
2. Before the 2000-2001 season, the Trail Blazers had fallen in the Western Conference Finals for two consecutive years. After seeing the team's potential, the team decided to continue to strengthen. After finding Pippen and Steve Smith the year before, the management introduced Sean Camp, who was still at the peak in the offseason in 2001. However, under this circumstance, the Rockets' strength has declined. They only ranked seventh in the Western Conference in the regular season in the new season, and were swept in the first round in the playoffs.
The Trail Blazers ended with such an ending this season. Looking back at their lineup at that time, the core players in the team included Rashid Wallace, Steve Smith, Stoudemier, Pippen, Sabonis, and Camp. It is understandable that Pippen and Sabonis did not perform well. After all, they were old, but it was not true that other players could not play at their original level. The reason why the Trail Blazers failed to touch their upper limit was that there was something wrong with their locker room back then, Stoudemire and Smith were not in line, and Kemp was extremely dishonest off the court, so he was banned.
3. After the Lakers
won three consecutive championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002, the Lakers have become the most dominant team in the league. Unfortunately, they failed to win the championship again in 2003 and were eliminated by the Spurs in the second round. So during the offseason, the Lakers began to strengthen again. With the continuous operations of the management, they recruited Karl Malone and Payton. Although both of them are no longer at the peak, they are still regarded as important signings with sufficient playoff experience.
The Lakers achieved second place in the regular season and successfully revenge in the playoffs and reached the finals. Just when the outside world thought they were going to win the cup again, the Lakers lost to the Pistons in the end. They even won only 1 game in this series. At that time, there were various rumors about the Lakers' locker room disagreement, among which the conflict between O'Neal and Kobe was even more exposed. Therefore, the Lakers had no choice but to make a choice between them in the 2004 offseason. In the end, O'Neal was traded, Payton also joined the Heat, and Malone directly chose to retire. In this way, the Lakers' first generation F4 was disbanded after only one season.
4. After the Lakers reorganized their lineup in 2013, the team's record declined at the beginning. It was not until Kobe traded with a partner Gasol in the 2007-2008 season that the team returned to the peak. In the 2011 playoffs, the Lakers failed to win three consecutive championships and lost to the young Thunder again in 2012. So the Lakers, who were determined to make changes, thought of a deal again. The teams later got Howard and Nash one after another, and the Lakers also launched another attack on the championship.
It's a pity that this lineup did not achieve the ideal effect. The Lakers almost failed to make the playoffs in the 2012-2013 season. If Kobe hadn't ended up fighting the Achilles tendon ruptured, the Lakers might have really fallen out of the top eight in the Western Conference. Due to the loss of Kobe, even though the Lakers made it to the playoffs, they still failed to win the championship, so their lineup quickly ushered in a stamina, and Kobe failed to return to the top after his comeback.
5. In 2014, the Nets ushered in a major change in the offseason in 2013. The team launched a big deal that shocked the entire league. In this deal, they won Garnett, Pierce and Jason Terry at the end of their careers. In addition to the team's original Deron, Daluo, and Joe Johnson, they really looked like they had created a good lineup.. However, due to the aging of Garnett and Pierce, the Nets' record in the new season was far lower than expected, and Daluo's injury also had a great impact on the team. In the end, they could only rank sixth in the Eastern Conference in the regular season.
In the second round of the playoffs, the Nets were swept by the Heat 4-1 gentleman. This round of series made the Nets realize how failed their choice. Fortunately, they chose to stop the loss in time and sent Pierce and Garnett away in the offseason. As Delon declined later, the Nets' record not only did not recover at all, but instead became worse and worse.
6. The Lakers failed to defend their title in 2022. They were troubled by injuries this season. James and Thomas had missed a large number of games, especially Thomas, who withdrew from the series early due to groin injury in the playoffs. During the offseason, the Lakers focused on strengthening the senior ball holder. In the end, the team traded Westbrook, which became the beginning of the Lakers' nightmare.
Although in the 2021-2022 season, the Lakers formed a lineup with James, Davis, Westbrook, Anthony, Howard, Rondo, Ariza and others, except for James, Davis, and Westbrook, the rest of the players have reached the end of their careers. Their condition is no longer as good as they were back then. James, Davis and Westbrook have also failed to develop chemistry due to incompatibility between their playing styles. In the end, they did not even make the playoffs in the 2021-2022 season. The most important thing is that the Lakers have not been able to reorganize the lineup during the offseason. Westbrook's contract is too big and no team is willing to take over. Therefore, in the 2022-2023 season, they are fighting for a playoff spot. If it weren't for the first round posted before the trade deadline and finally sent Westbrook away, the Lakers would probably miss the playoffs for two consecutive years.
