The Utah Jazz officially announced that the team has cut off Jaden Springer, a backcourt star who joined in the second half of last season.
Springer was born in September 2002 and is not yet 23 years old. He is 193cm tall and weighs 91kg. He is a backcourt player from the University of Tennessee who was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 28th pick in the first round in the 2021 NBA Draft. Although Springer is the first round pick in the draft year, he has not received much opportunity to play in the NBA, and his performance has never been able to make substantial improvements. In the second half of the 2023-24 season, he was also sent to the later championship team Boston Celtics. Although he helped the Celtics win the championship, Springer's playing time has not improved significantly, and he has no way to realize his potential. Springer has made a total of 110 appearances in the NBA regular season, averaging 8.8 minutes per game, averaging 2.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 0.7 turnovers and 1.5 fouls. He shot 40.9%, three-point shooting percentage 23.7%, and free throw shooting percentage 70.6%.
In order to reduce wages, Springer was sent to the Houston Rockets by the Celtics in a deal before the trading deadline last season, and then he was directly cut by the Rockets. After that, Springer first obtained a ten-day short contract from the Jazz, and after the ten-day short contract ended, he received a long contract from the Jazz for many years. After joining the Jazz, he played 17 games in the NBA regular season, averaging 13.2 minutes per game, averaging 3.8 points, 2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 0.7 turnovers and 1.5 fouls. He shot 41.1% from the field, 20.7% from three-point shooting percentage and 70.6% from free throws.
Springer is a physically talented and athletic player who is considered to have great potential to tap. Springer's defensive ability is also quite good. He has a very high defensive focus and strong defensive aggressiveness. He has also proved that he can play a role in the defensive end in some key games. But the problem is that Springer's technology is a bit rough. As a guard, his outside shooting stability is seriously insufficient, and his performance in passing and organization is also very ordinary. Although he can provide certain support to the team on the defensive end, he has seriously dragged the team down on the offensive end. Springer is actually still young and still has certain potential to tap, and his defensive ability can also help the team. I don’t know if there will be a team that will bet on his potential next.
