As we enter the second half of 2025, all basketball competitions have begun their journey into the new season. For the Chinese men’s basketball team, there is also good news. The first is naturally that Yang Hansen was selected by the Trail Blazers and got a lot of opportunities. Under the training of the team, he has the opportunity to become another banner of the men’s basketball team in the NBA. In addition, in the NCAA arena where talents are gathered, some Chinese players have also been given opportunities and performed well. I have to say that after a period of trough, the spring of the Chinese men's basketball team is coming. Let's take a look at how they perform!

Wang Junjie

University: University of San Francisco

Current age: 20 years old

First of all, let’s talk about Wang Junjie. As early as 2022, he was selected for the NBA Global Elite Program and successfully landed at the University of San Francisco the following year. Although his performance in his freshman and sophomore years was not that outstanding, after two seasons of NCAA training, his abilities have been greatly improved. In this summer's Asian Cup, although the national team failed to defeat the Australian team, it unfortunately ended as the runner-up.

But compared with the past, this year's national team has given fans hope, especially Wang Junjie, who averaged 13 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. His shooting and three-point shooting percentages reached 56.1% and 47.8% respectively. He has the potential to become the core of the national team's forward line in the next 10 years. After returning to the NCAA, Wang Junjie quickly scored 23 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal in the game against Utah State University, becoming the most shining star in the game. If this state can be maintained, Wang Junjie is likely to get more opportunities in the future, and may even hit the NBA stage after finishing college.

Lin Wei

University: University of Oregon

Current age: 21 years old

Then, let’s talk about Lin Wei. This year’s offseason has been full of twists and turns for Lin Wei. First, he averaged 21 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the CBA, and became the local CBA scoring leader at the age of 21. This also gave Lin Wei the confidence to go to the United States for special training and to enter the NBA. It's a pity that he was not selected. Fortunately, the Texas Legends of the G League gave him a chance, but Lin Wei had no intention of doing so and ultimately rejected the G League contract. Just when everyone thought that Lin Wei would return to the CBA or go to Australia or Europe to continue his career, he made a bold decision to participate in the NCAA league.

In order to improve the quality of the game and give more players opportunities, the NCAA changed the rules to allow college teams to introduce some players with professional resumes, and Lin Wei was lucky enough to be the winner. After joining the University of Oregon, he quickly captured the heart of the coach. Whether it is organization, passing, breakthrough and shooting, his overall efficiency is no worse than that of American defenders. It is precisely because of this that Lin Wei has been recognized by the team. If he maintains this performance, it is entirely possible for Lin Wei to enter the NBA.

Zhao Weilun

University: University of San Francisco

Current age: 20 years old

Let’s talk about Wang Junjie’s teammates, Zhao Weilun, who also landed on the NCAA stage this summer. Unlike most domestic players, Zhao Weilun was trained in the European basketball system when he was 5 years old and joined the Varese Club’s youth training camp. Since then, as he has grown up, Zhao Weilun has spent most of his time in Europe, so his style of play is very European, focusing on team system coordination, and his offense and defense are also very concise, allowing fans to see a brand new style of play.

In the 22-23 season, when he debuted in Serie B, he averaged 18.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. Whether it was a personal offense with the ball or an organizational connection, he was able to handle it with ease. It is precisely because of his outstanding performance that Zhao Weilun attracted the attention of American scouts and officially joined the University of San Francisco this year. Although compared to Wang Junjie, he does not have many opportunities, but as the saying goes, gold will shine. As long as Zhao Weilun can maximize his role in Europe, he will be able to get a chance at the University of San Francisco, and he may also be a potential core figure at the No. 1 position of the national team in the future.

Dan Houran

University: Seattle University

Current age: 20 years old

Finally, let’s talk about Dan Houran. He was also scouted by some scouts in the top high school basketball tournaments in China. Discovered and paid attention to, especially in 2023, when the 18-year-old faced the traditional powerhouse Tsinghua Middle School in the National High School Basketball Finals, he scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in the game, successfully helping Huipu Middle School defeat the opponent and win the final championship. Not only did he win the FMVP of the game, he was also regarded as the number one high school student in the country at the time.

Soon, he was called up by the National Youth Team and signed a contract with the Shanxi Team. He contributed 14.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 blocks in the youth team competition. His performance was very good. In order to further cultivate him, the Shanxi team also sent him to Seattle University. In his freshman season, although there were not too many opportunities, there were occasional moments of inspiration, and he finally handed over data of 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds. As he enters his sophomore season, both physical fitness and personal skills have been improved, and Dan Houran has every opportunity to compete for the team's main position and continue to improve.
