Make up for the shortcomings of the center? Famous reporter revealed that if the Celtics sell Pojin, the Warriors are expected to pursue this space-type insider

The famous basketball reporter Jake Weinbach revealed that if the Celtics plan to trade Porzingis, the Warriors will most likely pursue it. The Warriors have been looking for big players who can open up the game, and Porzingis's characteristics are just right for their needs.

Celtics face tough salary problems, with total salary combined with luxury taxes expected to exceed 500 million, which could break NBA record history, which is too amazing. To cut expenses, they planned to trade players, and Porzingis became a potential trader. Weinbach added that the Warriors have been looking for a big man in the market who can open up space on the court, which provides opportunities for the Celtics and Warriors' deals.

HoopsHype reporter Michael Scotto reported that some league executives believe that the Celtics will test the trading market for center Porzingis, who has only one year left in his contract and earns as much as $30.73 million.

Pozin performed well this season, playing 42 games, averaging 28.8 minutes per game, scoring 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 blocks, and has considerable shooting percentages, three-pointers and free throws, 48.3%, 41.2%, and 80.9%, respectively.

But in the playoffs, his form declined sharply, with 11 appearances, averaging playing time to 21 minutes, scoring only 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and a sharp decline in scoring efficiency, shooting percentage was 31.6%, three-point shooting percentage was 15.4%, and free throw shooting percentage was 68.9%.

Pozin was born in Latvia in 1995 and started his career in the Spanish Basketball League. He entered the NBA with the fourth pick in the first round in 2015, playing for the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, the Washington Wizards and the Boston Celtics. He was selected as the first team of the All-Rookie Team in 2015-16, was selected as the All-Star substitute in 2017-18, and won the NBA championship with the Celtics in 2023-24. He is tall and has long arms, and has excellent three-point ability to open up space on the court. He has performed outstandingly on both offense and defense.

In my opinion, if the Warriors pursue Pozin, the reason is quite obvious. From the inside of the team, the Warriors have always lacked a reliable inside center. When playing small ball tactics, Dream-Green is carrying it in the inside, but when encountering teams with strong inside lines like the Nuggets and the Timberwolves, the Warriors are in a tight position in the inside. Bojin is tall and has a long arms, has three-point shooting range, which can open up space, and the offensive end can create more opportunities for Curry and Butler to make breakthroughs. Defensively, his height and wingspan can also protect the basket to a certain extent.

In terms of tactical adaptability, the Warriors offensive system emphasizes ball transfer and outside projection, and Pozin's playing style is in line with this system. He can shoot three-pointers from the outside, and he can also eat cakes without too much ball rights. It can be said that the healthy Pozin is a better solution to the center of the Warriors lineup, rather than the frontcourt configuration of Butler, Green, and Rooney, which makes Curry's ball-holding offense everywhere, which also increases the risk of injury.

Look at the Celtics, putting Pozin on the shelves, mainly due to salary pressure. With the high salary and luxury taxes next season, the team has to find ways to reduce the burden. Although Pozin made contributions to winning the championship last year, this year's playoff performance also made the team hesitate. Moreover, his contract is only one year left. If he doesn't trade, the team will be able to get nothing once he leaves next year.

From external factors, many teams in the league lack inside lines, and Pozin has a certain market. The Celtics can use this to exchange for some assets, such as young players or draft picks, and make plans for the team's future. However, the Warriors also have risks in pursuing Pozin, because they are afraid that Pozin's injury will recur, or they will not be able to adapt to the Warriors' high-intensity game rhythm.

But Curry's peak period is not many years, and the Warriors management has to take a gamble. In addition, Curry, Butler and Green's contracts are very short. At that time, the Warriors' salary space will be released when they expire together. The championship and reconstruction will not be delayed. Why not do it?

Even if you miss the championship, the Warriors' box office revenue in the past two seasons will not be worried about, and the team's market value may continue to rise.
