How can a rookie not make mistakes? Hield: Richard is trustworthy and Kuminga is constantly improving.

October 23rd Yesterday, in the NBA regular season opener, the Warriors defeated the Lakers 119-109 away from home. Jimmy Butler scored a team-high 31 points. Stephen Curry contributed 23 points. Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield both scored 17 points.

After the game, Hield was interviewed:

Reporter: Buddy, you started the second half with an 18-4 offensive. What tactical arrangements were conveyed by the coaching staff during the halftime break?

Hield: We knew we were a little lax in the first half and did not put continuous pressure on our opponents, especially at the end of the second quarter, and lost the aggressiveness we should have had. The coaching staff told us to "bring back the pressure we had before" - as long as we do this, we can widen the gap. You see, Kuminga and Curry cooperated with each other, and I also got several air-cutting opportunities and made open three-pointers. The team's rhythm immediately picked up. Butler has also been attacking the basket, either drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line, or helping us stabilize our defense. As long as the defense can hold its own, we have confidence in our hearts - Chasing Dreams organizes the defense like a command tower. We continue to complete steals and blocks, and we win the game by relying on these defensive rounds.

Reporter: You just mentioned that Butler got to the free throw line 16 times tonight. In addition to scoring, what else can this help the team?

Hild: First of all, it can help us stabilize our defensive rhythm. No team wants to face a defensive formation that is already in place - once we are ready to defend, the opponent will have no choice but to run tactics and it will be difficult to disrupt our deployment. Butler's 16 fouls were too powerful. It not only helped us score, but also slowed down the Lakers' offensive rhythm, especially the rhythm of Luka (Doncic) and Austin (Reeves). Although Luka scored 43 points, we made him struggle all game and cut him off from other teammates. That's the value of drawing fouls.

Reporter: Buddy, preseason is one thing. In the regular season opener, Coach Cole trusted rookie Will Richard so much and let him play. What do you think?

Hield: Coach Cole will give everyone a chance, and Will deserves this trust. He's a national champion and he knows how to play and win at just 22 years old - that's rare. Our whole team trusts him, Coach Cole trusts him, and that's enough.

As veterans, we will help him adapt and teach him skills; he will definitely make mistakes, but how can a rookie not make mistakes? We are all happy for him. I told him, "Just go out and play." He was really good tonight, hitting a key three-pointer from the corner, which helped the team a lot.

Reporter: Let me ask another question. You just mentioned "aggression." Kuminga's aggression is very special, and it is difficult for others in the team to achieve it. How do you think he has changed this year? Not just hitting the basket, but also passing and rebounding.

Hield: Kuminga has top talent. In terms of transition offense, he, like LeBron and Anthony Edwards, is the league's best. This summer he specially trained his decision-making on the court. I always look at his Instagram and can see him practicing passing judgment in training. These are all used in actual combat.

He performed very well in training camp and preseason and is still improving. And Butler helped him a lot - like a big brother, he stayed with him on the court for extra practice after training, teaching him how to judge defense and whether to pass or attack. The two of them have a very good relationship, and this inheritance is so important to the team. Although his performance was average in some halves, he always stood up in the second half. This is the Kuminga we need.

Reporter: Can you talk about your relationship with Butler?

Hield: Didn’t you see it while watching the game?

Reporter: I just want to know if there are any details that we don’t know.

Hield: It’s actually very simple. Butler is a very nice person, as you can see. He's the spark that brings that toughness that every team needs and we couldn't ask for more from him, he's done a good enough job.

Reporter: There are many veterans in the team, and there are even legendary stars and Hall of Fame players. Coach Cole is also a Hall of Fame coach who has won many championships. At this stage of your career, what role do you see yourself playing on the team? How to help the Warriors win the fifth championship in franchise history?

Hilde: Actually, it means “being yourself”. You can't become anyone else, and you don't have to imitate - in a team like this, you don't have to be the "boss", just be yourself. And then learn from them like a "sponge" and what they've accomplished in the last 10 years is amazing and the whole league is watching. I'm learning new things every day, such as where to stand on the field and how to cooperate with my teammates. As long as the team needs me, I will fill in; when the opportunity comes, I will seize it and help the team score at critical moments. I am very satisfied to be able to help this team win the fifth championship.

Reporter: OK, thank you very much. I wish you a smooth return tonight.
