June 12th According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea goalkeeper Jorge Petrovic took the initiative to ask not to participate in the Club World Cup this summer in order to focus on finding a new next home.
Chelsea has announced the roster for participating in the Club World Cup, but Serbian goalkeeper Petrovic is not on the roster. The Daily Telegraph pointed out that it was Petrovic himself who took the initiative to ask not to be included in the Club World Cup roster because he hoped to focus on finding a suitable new home for himself this summer.
Petrovic joined Chelsea in 2023 and was loaned to Strasbourg last season, conceding 38 goals in the Ligue 1 31 appearances. Petrovic returns to Chelsea after loan term but he hopes to continue as the starting goalkeeper, which Chelsea cannot provide for him. Despite this, Petrovic and Chelsea still maintain a good relationship and the club understands his position.
Strasbourg hopes to buy out Petrovic, and some Premier League teams are also considering introducing him. Therefore, all parties believe that Petrovic will not go to the United States to participate in the Club World Cup at the moment, but will continue to deal with his future stay. However, if Petrovic fails to negotiate a transfer and leave the team, he will return to Chelsea for pre-season training in July.
Like Petrovic, midfielder Andre Santos, who was loaned to Strasbourg last season, was selected for Chelsea's Club World Cup roster, but some other Chelsea loan players (Sterling, Felix, Di Sasi) will not participate in the Club World Cup with Chelsea. The Daily Telegraph pointed out that this is because Chelsea regards the Club World Cup as a continuation of the 2024-25 season and has decided to leave most of the loan players at home to maintain the continuity of the lineup. But if Petrovic did not take the initiative to ask not to participate in the competition, Chelsea would have summoned him to the World Cup roster.
Chelsea is still considering buying Milan goalkeeper Meinian, which may threaten the position of Chelsea main goalkeeper Sanchez. Jorgensen was the starting goalkeeper of the European Union last season and helped Chelsea win the championship, while the 19-year-old Penders is regarded as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Europe. It can be said that Chelsea has no shortage of people in the goalkeeper position, and the 25-year-old Petrovic can only find a new next home.
