June 27 The Sun reported that the backpacker fell into a volcano and died on a hike. Pato was willing to pay for her body to transport her body back to Brazil.
26-year-old Brazilian backpacker Juliana Mariins fell into an active crater while hiking on Mount Rinjani, Indonesia, and was unfortunately killed. She slipped from a volcanic ridge above 1,000 feet (about 305 meters) above sea level and was trapped at the bottom of the crater. Despite emergency rescue, the young girl had unfortunately passed away due to injuries and extreme circumstances when the rescue team found her four days later. Juliana's body was transported from the area on Wednesday.
Former Brazilian international Alexander Pato offered to bear the cost of transporting Juliana's body back to Brazil. It is not clear whether his family accepts this kind of goodwill.
The grieving family publicly condemned the hiking guide and the ineffective rescue. Sister Mariana revealed that when Juliana stopped resting due to extreme fatigue, the guide left her and walked forward alone. She said: "The others continued to move forward, and the guide did not stay with her company."
The five-man hiking team led by a guide eventually led to a tragedy. The family also accused the Indonesian authorities of slow rescue efforts: "If it could be rescued within the estimated 7-hour prime time, Juliana would have survived. She suffered serious rescue negligence and we will seek justice for her."
According to reports, Juliana, from Rio de Janeiro, graduated from advertising major and worked in pole dance coaching and public relations during her lifetime.
In the heartbreaking video shared by a friend Fedelika, Juliana can be seen smiling at the Volcano Base Camp before falling. At that time, the two young women joked that the view was not good because the clouds blocked. Juliana joked, "It's great, we came for this view!" During the search and rescue, her sister revealed, "It is said that Juliana was panicked because of being at a loss, which led to her disappearance. The tour guide found that she had not returned for a long time and saw that she had fallen into the abyss when she returned."
