May 2 News Recently, data statistics agency Opta has included clubs that have scored more than 100 points in a single season in the history of the English League, including Manchester City, Fulham, Wolves, Newcastle, Leicester City and other teams.

Birmingham City has already broken through the 100-point mark in the League One after defeating Stevennic on April 24. After defeating Blackpool 2-0 on Wednesday night, they increased their league points to 108 points, setting a record for the highest points in four levels in English football history, surpassing Reading's 106 points in the 2005/06 season. Leeds United and Burnley are both expected to reach 100 points in the final round of the Championship season. Burnley has scored 97 points after defeating QPR on April 26. Now they only have one game left, and Leeds United also entered the final game with 97 points.

This will be Burnley's second consecutive season to score more than 100 points in the Champions League. In the 2022/23 season, they successfully advanced to the Premier League with a score of 101 points under the leadership of Kompany.

Before entering the 2024/25 season, only 16 England teams reached or exceeded 100 points in one season, but never three teams achieved this feat in the same season. And this season may be unprecedented in the 137-year history of the English Football League: all three teams scored 100 points in the same season.

Birmingham (English League One) 2024/25 season (one game left): 108 points

Manchester City is the only team in England's top league history to score 100 points in a single season, and they won the Premier League championship in the 2017/18 season. Back in 1981, the English Football League increased the winning points from 2 to 3 points, which is said to be a goal to make the team work harder to avoid a boring draw.

If the previous league is recalculated according to this system, nine more teams will join the 100-point club

Tottenham (English Championship) 1919/20 season: 102 points (70 points before adjustment)

Doncaster (English Championship) 1946/47 season: 105 points (72 points before adjustment)

Rotherham (English Championship) 1950/51 season: 102 points (71 points before adjustment)

Nottingham (English Championship) 1950/51 season: 100 points (70 points before adjustment)

Bristol City (English Championship) 1950/51 season: 1 00 points (70 points before adjustment)

Hull City (English Championship) 1950/51 season: 100 points (69 points before adjustment)

Aston Villa (English Championship) 1971/72 season: 102 points (70 points before adjustment)

Lincoln City (English League) 1975/76 season: 106 points (74 points before adjustment)

Watford (English League) 1977/78 season: 101 points (71 points before adjustment)

For Burnley or Leeds United, if they both score 100 points this season, one of them will be the first 100-point team to fail to win the championship. Of the 25 teams that had previously reached or exceeded 100 points (including adjusted scores), none of them missed the league championship. However, this situation may change this season, with the Champions League likely to have a 100-point runner-up for the first time.

Before this, the highest single-season score but failed to win the league title was Ipswich in the 2022/23 season. They scored 98 points in 46 games, but eventually lost to Plymouth, who scored 101 points, to finish second.
