Real Madrid Club officially announced that Xavi Alonso will serve as the team's new head coach, with a contract period of three years, starting from June 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028. He will replace the outgoing Carlo Ancelotti and lead the team to compete in the Club World Cup held in the United States at the end of June, opening a new era of "Galaxy Battleships".
Xavi Alonso was the center of midfield for Real Madrid and the Spanish national teams during his time. He joined Real Madrid in 2009 and played 236 games for the team by 2014. During this period, he won 6 championship trophys including the 2014 "Ten Champions League". In addition, he also won three championships in the 2008, 2012 European Cup and 2010 World Cup with the Spanish national team. He is a recognized midfielder and championship expert in football. After retiring, Alonso returned to Real Madrid in 2018 and began coaching the Junior A team, and led the team to win the league and championship double championships in his first season. He then went to the Bundesliga to coach Leverkusen, and in three years he built a strong team with balanced offense and defensive and flexible tactics, leading the pharmaceutical factory to achieve the "three-winning achievements" of the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup, winning wide recognition and is considered to be one of the most promising young coaches in today's football world.
Real Madrid Chairman Florentino will hold an inauguration ceremony for Alonso at Real Madrid Sports City at 12:30 noon on May 26 (18:30 on May 27) and officially sign the contract. After the ceremony, Alonso will attend the press conference and accept questions from the media as Real Madrid coach for the first time.
Real Madrid official praised Alonso as "one of the legends in the club's history" in the announcement and expressed his welcome to return as the head coach to open a new chapter of him and Real Madrid.
With Ancelotti's departure and Alonso's takeover, Real Madrid's future will be handed over to the helm of the former midfield commander. The "Harvey era" is about to set off, and the course of the Galaxy warship may change as a result.
