Mbemo s transfer deadlock: Manchester United needs to raise prices, Tottenham has withdrawn

1:25am, 1 July 2025Football

Recommended Network reported on June 28 that Manchester United encountered new challenges in chasing Brentford striker Mbemo. According to BBC and Athletics, Manchester United's £62.5 million offer was rejected by Brentford. The offer includes a fixed fee of £55 million and a floating clause of £7.5 million, which is comparable to the transfer fee for Manchester United's first signing of Cunha in the summer window. However, Brentford believes Mbemo's performance and potential are better than Cunha, so he demands a higher transfer fee of at least £70 million.

Mbemo himself is full of desire to join Manchester United. He rejected Tottenham's invitation and made it clear that he only wanted to join Manchester United. This attitude was confirmed by transfer expert David Ornstein. Mbemo's contract with Brentford will expire next summer, and the club has terms for renewal, but both parties want a peaceful breakup. Brentford's new head coach Keith Andrews also knew Mbemo's wishes and would not forcibly block his transfer.

Although Tottenham has withdrawn from the competition, Manchester United still needs to make concessions on transfer fees. Brentford hopes to get more guarantees on fixed transfer fees, at least comparable to Cunha’s, with some floating clauses attached. Manchester United hopes to use PSR profit and sustainability rules to reduce spending after the fiscal year reset. Negotiations between the two sides are still continuing, and the final transfer fee is expected to be around £65 million. Manchester United fans don't need to worry about Mbemo being intercepted by other teams, but the club still needs to make more efforts on transfer fees to complete the highly-watched transfer.
