US reporters suggest that the Warriors should consider trading White from the Celtics, who worked with Cole at the Paris Olympics

The Warriors have been eliminated from the NBA playoffs, but rumors are everywhere about their future trends.

In the latest episode of the "The Ringer" podcast, well-known sports reporters Zach Lowe and Logan Murdock discussed the Warriors' future. Logan Murdock mentioned a specific name when talking about which players the Warriors should strive for. "I think another player the Warriors should consider in the future is Derek White," Logan Murdock said. "...This is something the Warriors are paying attention to, because it is generally expected in the league circle that the Boston Celtics will undergo some clearance or reconstruction." At the same time, Logan Murdock pointed out that White's defensive ability will help the Warriors, especially "to calm everyone down", which is particularly important for young players who play when Curry rests.

White played for the American men's basketball team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the team's coach was Steve Cole. Cole used White heavily in the game, even more minutes than his Celtic teammate Jason Tatum, a decision that sparked widespread controversy. Despite the high voices from the outside world, Cole insisted on using White, who averaged 15.8 minutes per game, and Cole also called him a typical "FIBA player".

White will execute a four-year, $118 million contract extension starting next season, when his salary will be $28.1 million. Assuming both Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler are non-selling, the only player on the Warriors who can make a one-on-one deal with White is Draymond Green, but this exchange is obviously extremely unlikely.

If you package the transaction with multiple players, from the perspective of salary matching, the Warriors can package the two second and third highest revenue players next season - Moody's ($11.6 million) and Hilder ($9.2 million) - but this transaction is likely to have to come with multiple first-round picks to impress the Celtics. You can also join the third player in the Warriors roster, such as Brandin Pojmski ($3.7 million), plus one or two first-round picks, but the price will be the Warriors' almost entire shooting guard rotation - including two young players the Warriors like very much.

But White will turn 31 this summer. If the deal is reached, the Warriors will also undertake high contracts for four players over 30: White, Green, Butler and Curry, with a total salary of up to $167.7 million, greatly limiting the team's future financial flexibility.

Of course, this operation is not completely impossible. Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. had previously stated that the team was "willing to pay any price" to win another championship.
