July 3 According to famous reporter Stein, former Lakers/Calligraphy/Rapgers assistant coach Phil Handy became a candidate to join the Mavericks' coaching staff.
In addition to Handy, according to league sources, former Lakers assistant coach (and former Lakers champion guard) Mike Pembersey is also one of the candidates for the Dallas coaching staff. Pembersey has a close relationship with Mavericks star Anthony Davis.
Penberg and current Mavericks coach Kidd both joined the Lakers coaching staff in 2019 and served as an assistant coach with Kidd during the 2020 Lakers championship; he also won the championship with the Lakers as a player in 2001.
