Amorim: No matter what the outside world thinks, I always make decisions based on intuition

Hupu News on October 20th Premier League, Liverpool 1-2 Manchester United. After the game, Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim attended the press conference.

Since you coached Manchester United, how would you evaluate the team's performance in this game? Where does this win rank among your wins as a coach?

Amorim: I think we started very well and the team’s morale was very high throughout the game. But in terms of possession, we were only good at certain times. We created opportunities and also gave our opponents some opportunities.

In the second half, our mentality was slightly unstable, but we handled it very well after losing the ball - we controlled the key points, which is crucial for the team.

So this win is great. Although our overall performance was not top-notch, we showed a strong fighting spirit. This is my only request for the team.

People often discuss players who have performed well after leaving Manchester United, and Harry Maguire is a rare example - he chose to stay and experienced all the difficulties, and now his form is back. What do you think of him as a player?

Amorim: Maguire is very important to us. I have also mentioned before that Manchester United is a team under great pressure and it is not easy to play here. A lot of players have had the chance to play for Manchester United and then left, that's how it goes in life sometimes.

But Maguire is different. His performance today is crucial to us, and his experience is an example for all young people-he has overcome all difficulties. Next he needs to recover well and be ready for the game against Brighton.

The team has now won two consecutive league victories. What significance does this victory at Anfield have on your journey as coach of Manchester United? How important is it now to build on the success and continue the momentum?

Amorim: Of course it is very important. I haven't won many games at Manchester United yet, so this win means a lot - not only two wins in a row but also away from home at Anfield.

I have been emphasizing the details in the game before: maintaining mentality and not panicing when encountering difficulties or losing the ball. We all achieved these details perfectly today. It's going to be key for us to keep that going over the next week.

For the fans, this victory is equally important. They had watched the team struggle against Grimsby and Brentford before, but today they saw a different Manchester United. It means a lot to us to be able to play away from home against our biggest rivals and have the fans singing in the stands the entire time. So this win is dedicated to them.

Manchester United fans all over the world are cheering for victory and shouting your name the whole time. What does it mean to you to share a victory with fans and feel their unfailing support? Can it bring more positive momentum to the team?

Amorim: This kind of support is very unusual, and it is difficult to find a similar situation-even though the team has experienced so many troughs, the fans still firmly support the head coach, even if the outside world is saying that "the head coach won't last until Christmas."

I'm lucky to have such fans, but now we have to focus on the next game.

At the end of the game, a defender did not celebrate with Senne Ramones. How much role did he play in this key victory?

Amorim: His role is very crucial. But sometimes he also had some luck - Liverpool had two shots hit the post. If those goals had been scored, everyone's evaluation of the team and the goalkeeper might be completely different.

But Ramones must understand that he showed strong willpower and strength today, and his contribution to our win is also due to him.

As we all know, your tactical system has been facing a lot of doubts, and even today's starting lineup may surprise some people. But this lineup obviously succeeded in putting Liverpool into a passive position. Can you talk about your thoughts on formulating the tactics for this game?

Amorim: I think, especially when the team is in a difficult situation, you have to make decisions based on intuition - no matter what the outside world thinks, I have always done this. For a head coach, this is the most important quality. Even if you sometimes make wrong choices, this is the core of coaching.

Sometimes, even if a player is in good condition, but the game situation or the characteristics of the opponent are not suitable for him, it is best to adjust the selection and not to use it forcefully. I understand the logic of the football world: when winning, the coach is a "smart tactician"; when losing, the coach is "everything wrong". But I will always make the choice that I think is best for the team.

For example, in the midfield position, if we let Ben play, it will be easier for Liverpool's central defender to restrict our forwards, so we adjusted our deployment.

Ahmad (Diallo) has been through a difficult time in the past few weeks due to the death of a family member and missed some games. He returned and performed well against Sunderland last week. Can you talk about how he adjusted his condition? And how does he and Brian (Mbemo) work together on the right wing?

Amorim: Amad performed very well on the right wing, this position is perfect for him.

When I took him off the field today, he was a little reluctant, but he had already received a yellow card at that time, and the opponent was very dense in his single defense on the wing, so I took him off for tactical reasons. If it weren't for these factors, he would have stayed on the field because he was so important to us.

It's been a tough few weeks for him, but our entire team is supporting him, and that's what matters most.

For a long time, the outside world has not had high expectations for Manchester United. What goals do you think the team can achieve now? And what has the team been pursuing?

Amorim: I hope everyone will continue to maintain the current "low expectations" narrative for the team without changing it - this is the best for me. I will not raise the team's goals now, such as shouting championship slogans. What we have to do is to strive for three consecutive victories first, and temporarily forget the topics of "fighting for four" and "fighting for six".

We have said before that the goal is to qualify for the European competition, but this victory will not change anything - we are no different from the Manchester United 90 minutes ago, but the outside world's perception of us has changed.

We still have a lot of work to do. We have good luck and excellent fighting spirit in this game. We will bring these to the next game. So the team's goal has never changed.

The last time we asked a similar question, you reminded us that "the storm is coming." Now do you think Manchester United got through that difficult period?

Amorim: I don’t know. I keep saying the same thing: if we show the same level of fighting spirit every day in every practice and every game, we can win a lot of games. But to do this, what is needed is action, not empty talk, and there is no need to always mention what happened last year.

Today is a good day, but now we have to focus on the game against Brighton, and we will wait until after that game.
